Well I had seen that in a documentary about a huge tower built in China.
I can't explain it very well but basically the crane is stabilized by multiple hydraulic ''legs''. When the time comes to go higher some of these ''legs'' go to the higher floors, and they lift the crane up going back to the base of the crane.
Think of this like you getting on a high wall. First you'll extend your arms, then with your own force you will bring your feet to the height of your hands and the wall. Once on the wall you'll be able to stand up.
If anyone can offer an even more laic explanation, I salute you!
I think I remember where that passing out thing is coming from. From the 9/11 media frenzy. I had heard too that most of the people that fell to their death had probably passed out when they hit the ground due to the shock. Now believing it is a different story!

Whenever I'm in doubt I just google the word and it corrects me! You should try it too. And no it's not spelled right...
Lfs definitely helps...I stopped going karting for about 2 years in which I discovered Lfs, and when I came back I had instantly gained 1.5 sec per lap. Now when I go karting I'm always within 1 second from the track record (in the same kart) !
It also helped on my first track day on Spa Francorchamps. I had never driven a car quite near its limits, especially my fathers car, but somehow I felt at home. I didn't need to go over the limits of the car to see what it would do, I already knew...By the end of the day I had a faster laptime than my father who has been doing a lot of track days in that car and is quite fast too!
Needless to say he was pissed and finally had to acknowledge the power of Lfs, which for him is just a game.

His panic reactions aren't very good, but you have to agree that we all have our eye ON him to find a fault. It's the media's fault for passing him as the next best thing. Not his. There was certainly no announcement of falling parts, but the screenshot was official. They were just a bit rushed in the process of choosing screenshots so there was one that allowed some speculation by trigger happy speculators! I give them that it was back in the days were the devs were toying with us with some teasers...
